A Group Exhibition Celebrating Cars, Art and Art Cars

This exhibition honors Laurence Gartel as the featured artist of the NY International Auto Show (Jacob Javits Center, March 29-31) with a special exhibition displaying his wider range of artistic talent in conjunction with the group exhibition, “C/Ar/t” celebrating the love of both art and cars. Featured Artists: Jean-Guerly Petion, Marshall Arisman, Robert Seyffert, Paul Rumsey, Eli Livingston, Andy Golub, Patrick Byers, J. L. Robbins, Bart Powers and Ray Sell.
The Opening Reception featured a sneak preview of Gartel’s newest art cars in advance of the Auto Show and the opportunity to meet Mr. Gartel at the first stop of the art car rally from Florida.
About the Artist:
Laurence Gartel, born and raised in NYC, is known as the “father of digital art” who taught Andy Warhol how to use the Amiga Computer. He was featured in Apple Computer’s “Think Different” campaign and his ABSOLUT GARTEL commission is one of his most iconic and commercially known works worldwide. Gartel has worked with Walt Disney, Forbes, Coca Cola, Sex Pistols, Kiss, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears. Gartel’s works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Smithsonian Institution, Bibliotheque Nationale Paris, and the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London to name a few. Mercedes Benz has officially endorsed Gartel’s Mercedes Art Car appearance at the Auto Show and featured him on their global website. His first commissioned art car was for Art Basel – Miami Beach 2010, after which he was then commissioned to produce a Ferrari Scuderia for ArtFellas in Italy. Gartel’s art cars and motorcycles will take center stage during the opening weekend in the Special Events Exhibition Hall 1D and will feature the following: 1982 Mercedes 380 SL, 2005 Chrysler 300, 1975 VW Beetle, 1956 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, and a 1963 Chevy Pick Up. www.gartelart.com
